Historically, I’ve been partial to Jeff Buckley’s cover of this Leonard Cohen song — which is based on the Biblical story of (King) David and Bathsheba and has been analyzed and interpreted for years.
Yet today, in this moment, at this juncture in the road, no other rendition carries the power, the majesty, and the achingly delicious surrender that K.D. Lang summons through her body and voice in this commanding-yet-humble, 2005 live performance in Winnipeg.
This slays me in the best possible way. ‘Nuff said.
